Archway & Railings

A very creative "natural" styled commission.

I was commissioned with designing, producing and installing an archway with attached railings and a "free" panel, but it had to be almost entirely "flowing and natural". Due to the nature of the project, plenty of time went into the design phase from both parties. The clients found some designs which they liked, and I chose which would be most suitable to incorporate into the commission.

Most of the designing was left out. This was to make the production more of a "visual" construction - the blacksmith's eye. This saved a lot of time and effort to working with a complete, hand-drawn template, and also made any adjustments that might not have seemed suitable much easier to change.

The clients were thrilled with the work that had been completed. There was the right balance of decoration and open space, with the mind that it could have easilly been too crowded. It attracted many passers-by as I was installing the sections, and plenty more have since praised the commision.

The project spanned over 2 months. It involved me using new tools, new methods of working, and it was one of my first major creative projects, giving me valuable experience.
